Valve Kits from Comp Cams

Does anybody have experience putting in a "K kit" from Comp Cams? These include valves, springs, a cam, timing chain and that stuff. I'm thinking about the Magnum kit #431 for my '71 Cutlass, plus a Edelbrock Intake to match my carb. My question is whether or not the valves need to be altered (shortened) or if this type of "kit" will plop right in like its supposed to. It is the stock 350 motor. Thanks!!

Give a link so we can see what you are looking at.

Whenever you do a set of non-adjustable Oldsmobile heads, and install new valves, you MUST trim the valves to the correct height.
The only time you do not have to is when you change it over to an adjustable valve train. If you get larger valves, the seat must be opened to the correct dimensions.

You also MUST grind the valves, and valve seats to create a pressure seal, at correct point on the valve.
Even on the Chevy.

If you get valves, take them to a shop.
Do it right.

I don't think "K" kits include the valves, just springs, retainers, locks, chain, lifters, and cam.

Along with what Warhead said you'll also need to make sure that the cam is ground on the same base circle as the OEM stuff, that'll effect valve train geometry as well.

On a 71 you don't have much compression so in all reality your cam choices will be limited.

Looking back, that sure as hell came out wrong.
Consider me scolded.
