timing

wheres a good place start from when adjusting the timing on an olds 350, is it 10 advanced ;lke the chubbys?

20 degrees BTDC on my '76 350. If it is on the engine in the car in your avatar then you could use the recommendation above as a starting point. I bet it even varied from the other 48 to Kalifornia as well. Joe would know for sure but I bet they were already into keeping the world green and preventing smog in '68 over on the left coast. That may have meant a different initial timing for a California car.

I guess it depends on the year of the 350 but 1968-1972 is 8 degrees btdc @ 750 rpm with the vacuum advance plugged. If you still run points, this can be fine adjusted 1 degree for every 1 degree dwell change at the points. 10 degrees should be fine also.
