Throttle cable differences
Throttle cable differences
Ok very simple question. Was there a length difference with the 2bbl vs 4bbl throttle cable on a 68 Cutlass with a 350 V8. I am asking because I switched from 2 to 4bbl. Used a washer and c-clip for now to keep it from sliding off. Works fine until I can make perfect. Some say 4bbl were longer which then I would not want to switch because I feel that would cause a problem. A touch shorter would make more sense. Ok annnnnd GO!
Thanks.
Thanks.
My 72 was a 2bbl out of the factory. Changed to 4bbl iron intake 4 years ago. Needed a different cable mounting bracket and cable. Don't think it makes any difference whether it's 68 or 72 because the motor position and the firewall & throttle pedals are almost identical.
Decades ago I converted my 68 Vista with 350 from 2bbl to 4bbl. Obviously the bracket for the cable needs to change since the carb bolt pattern is different. I kept the same cable and had no problems. I later converted the car to a 425 with that same cable and still had no problems. I'm at a loss to explain why there are two part numbers for the cables.
Well, the different part numbers would indicate that there IS a difference. The question remains, what is that difference, specifically. As I noted, I've seen no functional difference between the two, and I haven't owned a 2bbl car in the last 30 years, so I don't have one handy to compare.
the original 2bbl cable is shorter than the 4bbl cable. i tried to use a 2bbl cable on a 4 bbl and there is no way it was going to be long enough. not sure how others could have got it to work even with another bracket.
My experience is on a 1968 Vista Cruiser with 350 and a 1971 Cutlass with 350. In both cases I swapped intakes from 2bbl to 4bbl and used the correct 4bbl bracket with the existing 2bbl cable with no problems.
Thanks!
