strange problem
strange problem
the car runs fine but when you try to rev the engine it sounds like we have a miss and it blows exhaust out of the carb. what gives, i dont think we droped a valve cause there is no tinging or strange sounds. the car is in time ( as far as we can tell anyway) cause it runs and most of the time it runs strong. so before we pull the engine apart to see wtf is goin on can anyone give us any ideas of what to check for. thanx
I don't know about the rest of the guys on the forum but the first thing I would do it take the valve covers off and see that all the rockers and valves are working properly. I had a similar problem on a Pontiac engine. No ticking but when I pulled the valve covers I noticed that I had broken a rocker stud and I had a dead exhaust valve.

My chevy did exactly the same thing. The intake valve had receded into the head because it didn't have hardened seats. The valve couldn't seat all the way and it only appeared when I revved the car. Like a ticking coming through the carb, right? I rebuilt the whole motor since it needed at least a valve job. This was on a car that the owner had installed Dart heads in 1981. Therefore no hardened seats.
