Only in Mondello's dreams.

Kind of makes one wonder how, in the 34 years since they were allegedly cast, there has not been one photo taken of a SMW 403.

There are more photos of Nessie , Bigfoot , and UFO's than the SMW 403

And yet, still no photos or other hard proof...

Rumour is they exist... but nobody's ever seen one.

Chris Witt in MI has a standing high-dollar reward offered to anyone who can produce proof of one. He's still sitting on his money.

If I had to guess which cars might have gotten one, it would be 1977-78 Toronado, maybe 77-78 wagon, maybe 1979 TransAM.

But people have yanked the original 403s out of all those cars and torn them down, and still nobody's ever seen one.

Maybe that .015 over E-block 400 is where the SMW 403 myth came from.

I'm about to tear into my 79 ta. I have beat the motor pretty hard. (1 hr, rush hour, with a busted harmonic balancer) and the motor held together. If it is solid, I will definitely let chris know. I doubt it thou.....

403 solid main web...

Thanks for the reminder... I'd forgotten that I bought a 403 out of a Trans Am in 2009 that's still sitting in my garage.

Now I'm curious...but I'm not holding out any hope...

I am starting to think there are certain things that should be put at the top of the first page on this board. A few examples would be:

(1.) There is no such thing as solid web mains in a 403
(2.) There is no difference in headers for a Cutlass Supreme
(3) Which motor mounts to use when converting a 350 to a 455
(4.) If you are putting a Chevy engine in an Olds, you will not get the welcome mat rolled out by many people.
