Solenoid assembly

I got a little overconfident and disassembled my solenoid without taking pictures. Do I have it assembled correctly? Is this the proper orientation for the cap? And for the life of me, I can't figure out where the extra spring goes. It popped out when I removed the cap and didn't get a chance to see it in place. And is the "R" terminal oriented correctly?

Thanks everyone

Looks right to me, but I don't remember that second spring. Hmmm...

Flip the big washer over to its other side, too.

I was going to say that you should at least file the copper disk and the two terminals smooth before reassembly (yes, I see that you've rotated one of the terminals in the cap to the non-pitted side).

Yeah, took the pic before I cleaned everything and exposed new copper. Good to go there. No ideas about the other spring? Weird. It's not shown in the exploded view in the manual either. Could it be an extra, like a replacement? Seems like a stretch.

NO! That 'extra' spring is NOT extra. One goes behind the contact assembly and the other goes on top. If your copper contact assembly is staked on you can't rotate that disk, but you can clean it with some 400 grit paper.

Be very careful putting the phenolic cover back on because that material can be brittle and crack very easily. If you use loctite blue on the securing nuts it should hold nicely and not come loose.

Allan, if you mean there is a spring underneath the disc and one on top, then yes, I have three springs in all; the two in the pic and another that is exactly like the spring on top. Not sure what you mean by "behind the contact assembly".

The disc is staked on so I just took it to my wire wheel.

Ok, that's good! 2 springs is what you're supposed to have. No idea why you'd have 3 of them unless one fell off the stake and the assembler just reached for another instead of picking it up? Contact disk looks good. I didn't paint my solenoid casing, it shouldn't need it. If anything, parts that need to look 'natural metal' can be clear coated with high temp satin clear. Results are very good.

Okay, extra parts rolling around inside an assembly are NOT helping the inexperienced DIYer, lol. Thanks Allan.
