Small Block 307
Small Block 307
Hi, I am having a huge amount of trouble figuring out where the casting number is s that I can identify exactly wht I assume to be a small block 307. Above and behind the water pump on a ledge of sorts is stamped
4790 GM5.0L G and on both the passenger and drivers side below the valve covers is stamped 7A and 0142. I was told that it came out of an 86 Cutlass supreme and its sitting in a 80 cutlass supreme now thats waiting to get a 700r4 lifted into it. Any help identifying this motor would be helped as well as some tips on what vacuum lines, hoses..... the air injection pipe (think thats the name) and such can be deleted. Right now I have a mess with old wiring still connected to the car tangled with the wiring and vaccum tubes still connected to the motor. I'll add pictures hopefully tomorrow that will display the mess on my hands...

And it did come out of a 85 1/2 to 90 Oldsmobile.
You do know that a 700r4 is NOT a direct bolt in. You'll need an adapter plate for the engine and a shorter drive shaft since it's longer than a 200r4 and 350th

Thanks. I figured but it was a 307 but was hung up on the year and whether any other info would matter when gathering parts i figuring out how the wiring should go. Thanks for te tip on the drive shaft.... I had a guess at that too cause u can tell it looks longer the the original.
