I went to the local Pull-A-Part this morning and scored a decent looking 403 block for $80!!!!!!! i have '72 7a heads that have had a little work done (slightly bigger valves, ground down exhaust bump, middle port divider, bolt holes opened up), cloyes double roller, lunati voodoo cam and lifter kit Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 256/262

I wish getting my 403 core had been that easy!
Go with the dished stock replacement pistons, deck to get the compression you want - probably stay around 9.0 to 9.5:1. I would close the exhaust crossover in the heads. Spend some time with the rest of the valvetrain to make sure it's set up right.
That's the puny Voodoo. I'm settling in the 60803 right now. Idle is causing problems but otherwise it's really good.
You didn't mention ignition or induction, but nothing too fancy is necessary there.

One thing I'd recommend, is an adjustable valvetrain kit, as what I did on my engine. I got one from Dave Smith Olds in CA, but not sure he's still doing this. Saves messing around with rocker stand shims, and sets up just like a Chevy small block.
