Rev Limiter Question.

I have an original 1968 Rocket 350 engine i had rebuilt. It is all stock except for the mild cam that was put in it , HV oil pump and the 4 bbl rochester has been rebult with hi perf accel pump rods needle and seat and air orifices drilled out. I have a pertronics electronic ignition in the stock distributor and it has a rev limiter. What is the max rpm I want out of this motor? Where should i set the rev limiter? Any suggestions would be appreciated....T

I'd set it to 4800 - 5000 rpm.

The cam should dictate the max rev's.... assuming everything in the engine is OK.

Actually imo the valvesprings will dictate what a safe rpm limit will be.
You can have a cam that breathes to 7000, but if the valve springs let the valves float at 6000 then 5800 is your limit. It'll quit making power once the valves start to float anyway. There's no sense in spinning it past that point.

I'd set it at no more than 5200 or so unless you know exactly what spring is in it.

I was thinking max. practical rpm's vs. max before valve float...same church, different pew, I guess.

Thanks guys I'll ask my buddy who built the motor for me. The factory setting is 5500 rpm but you can set it any where from 4000 rpm to 9000 rpm.

My buddy who built the engine thinks 4500 rpm is good. Thanks for all your help.
