Question about vacuum pump

Hi

I have a problem with my engine. If I brake very hard or take a full brake with my car, so the engine is stalling or get off. I think there is a problem with the vacuum, because my vacuum pump is not connected. So does anybody know how the vacuum pump works?

Thank in advance for any help.

Don't have a better pic, sorry.

First of all, that's not a vacuum pump, it's the A.I.R. pump which is part of the emissions control system. It pumps fresh air into the exhaust ports to help burn any unburned hydrocarbons when the engine is in open loop mode and then switches to pump air into the catalytic converter when the system goes into closed loop mode to help keep the converter from overheating and melting. Your car doesn't have a vacuum pump, that was only used on the diesels.

The stalling problem is likely due to a vacuum leak someplace. Your 307 has miles of vacuum hoses that crack and leak as they age. You need to completely check every one of them and replace any that are suspect. If that doesn't fix the problem, you may have a faulty power brake booster.
