question about converting a 350DX to gas
well my 84 olds delta 88 is needing a new motor as the 307 is almost toast, i've been looking around for a new olds engine, but olds engines are a dime a dozen out here, the only thing i ever come across at the junkyard is either more 307's or 350 diesels, i had heard a rumor that you could convert a 350 diesel to gas, i hear about more people stroking it to 440 c.i. but i just want a simple 350 5.7L engine i was wondering if its possible to convert the diesel to gas and keep it 350 c.i. like can i leave the diesel crank in there and just add new pistons for gas usage, and switch a couple things over from my 307, i dont have a lot of money to spend, i could get a chevy 350 as those are plentiful and cheap at the junkyard but i wanna keep it an olds inside and out , i mean worst comes to worst i'll have no choice but i wanna see what my other options are first

There's a 403 for sale down in Maryland.
If you convert the 350DX to gas you'll need BB Olds heads. Probably C heads, a disturbor since diesels don't have them, and IDK what else.
A 350 Diesel is a 411 stroker when converted to gas. Block is all iron so it's heavy, but impossible to crack.

You will need to remove the injector drive, and plug the oil hole to the injector drive (we pulled the bearing from the block, and re-installed it where the oil hole was blocked). You have to pull the timing chain to do this. We used 350 gasoline engine timing chain, eccentric, fuel pump, front cover, and harmonic balancer. Not sure if you can use the factory diesel parts, due to different fuel pump.
If anyone HAS used diesel pump, say so, let us know here.
#8 heads/ 4A (403) work well for this. C heads can work. EITHER set, you will HAVE to make sure the head bolt holes are drilled to 17/32nds, and you move the left- head alignment dowels in the block to a gasoline location. This involves drilling the locator in the block deck surface using the gasoline head gasket for location. You will need to plug the manifold drain at the back of the block, get a distributor (It fits right where the vacuum pump went) , use a SBO intake manifold-C heads requires the Edelbrock Performer RPM.
All of these blocks are iron, this one has more where needed, and a better grade of it.
I wish 455's were cast as well as this block was cast.
