Power Steering bracket bolt

Could anyone tell me the size of the bolt used where the power steering pump bracket bolts to the lower driver's side of the engine block? Mine is missing.

I'ts a 7/16" coarse thread by 1" or 1 1/8" ( takes a 5/8" socket) and if I recall right, a spacer is also used to secure that bottom bracket to the block.

That spacer is important. It's often left out, leading to posts about pulleys not aligning.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to pick one up somewhere, along with the bolt.

So where would I go about finding this bolt and spacer?

Assuming this is at the fwd motor mt hole....
7/16-14 NC x about 1" or so long
I have spares
don't forget the spacer between bracket and block

ck your assembly manual for drawings.

I did find that drawing in the Assembly Manual. How much for the bolt to 44266? Also, do you have the spacer? If so, I'll take that as well. Please let me know prices. Thanks!

The original spacer is 5/8" thick so you can make that up with washers if you wanted, or even a large nut if you could find one with the correct width. Even if you had to grind one down a little. The bolt already mentioned is also something you could buy at a hardware store. Use grade 5 or grade 8. You should be able to get what you need for a few bucks. If you are looking for a factory correct appearance then you'll need to get the correct spacer.

I lost mine so I used a large nut. There must be a rat stealing my nuts and bolts in my garage.

It pains me to admit I've done the same.

I seem to recall a standard nut for a 3/4" bolt is about the right thickness.

Old thread but related question: Are there two studs that thread into the front of the block to mount the power steering pump (with a nut over the stud)? If so, what is the size of the lower one?

The previous owner (always them) used a bolt for the lower hole that does not fit and is clearly incorrect. They also left out one of the spacers. Here a photo for horror, I mean fun.

It's the third one from the right in the photo.

Thanks! Is there a source for just the longer of the studs? I haven't seen anything other than that entire kit.

I see the stud has a shoulder/non-threaded region. Is that important? Would a stud with the correct threads from the hardware store be fine? Though I suppose the built-in hex nut on that stud also acts as a spacer?

Yes, the nut is necessary both as part of the total spacer length and to allow you to torque the stud against the front cover and timing tab. You could use a plain stud and a separate nut to do the same thing. You'll still need the tubular spacer as well. I've only seen the stud as part of the set or from a parts motor.

I've asked in the "Parts Wanted" section of anyone has these laying around. I have the upper spacer, still need the lower.

If anyone has specs on the stud length and the nut thickness - that would be very helpful for a hardware fix.

Also, to check: this is a photo of my block with the pump removed.
1. There is an empty threaded hole on the lower right side of the front of the block (slightly to the side, and way in front of the drag link dust boot). Is a bolt supposed to go into the blot for pump installation? There was not one when I remov the pump, but then again, I'm finding a mess of parts here. I can't tell from the FSM if something goes in this hole (doesn't look like it). BUT...the kit has enough bolts to use this hole.

2. You can see the lower down bolt that will hold the spacer threaded in to the bolt right near the oil pan. Is that bolt supposed to have a shoulder at the top? My bolt is also very long and does not thread all the way in. Might be snug with the spacer once I get that.

Apologies for keeping this thread alive

I’m having a nearly identical issue with my car- here’s the dilemma- my car is a 71 with a 455 from a 73; my original engine was a 350. I just replaced the power steering pump and now I’m struggling with the lower alternator bracket getting it into the hole right next to the manifold- about an inch gap. This is all the same brackets that were on there before I disassembled it, so something isn’t right. Does anyone have a 73 diagram in case I re-assembled it all wrong? I could only find a pre-73 diagram. For what it’s worth, I don’t know if the brackets are from the 71 350 or the 73 455, the swap was long before I got the car. Thank you in advance.
