Performer rpm cam/valve spring question

Hey folks, need some help here. I purchased the performer rpm cam 7112, performer rpm Intake 7111, performer link timing set 7813 for a olds 350 build. After purchasing the parts required I noticed there is one part i need that now seems to be discontinued. The valve springs I need (part number 5712) I can not find anywhere. Anyone know if I can use another set of valve springs for that cam? Or would anyone have a set on a shelf they'd sell?

That appears to be the same cam grind as the Lunati (and many others) 224/234. Look on Lunati, Elgin, etc web sites for the recommended springs.

Do you know what your actual installed height will be? And what is your rear gear ratio and year of the engine?

I am also curious of the compression ratio and what stall the torque converter is? Are you degreeing the cam?

I do not know the actual height at the moment. it's a 73 block, I've got #5 heads to rebuild, plus the performer rpm kit to install with retainers and locks for the edelbrock sure seat 5712 valve springs, the only piece to this puzzle I don't have is the valve springs. I can get the springs for aluminum heads but the ones for cast iron heads are discontinued. This was just a project to slap together and see what happens. Cam , timing kit and intake were givin to me, Engine was something I had stored. I only had to buy the heads and parts to rebuild the heads for that cam/intake. But those springs are awful hard to find. as for rear ratio I'm unsure, spider gears and center pin blew up so was planning rear end rebuild after I rebuild the motor. It's a 69 cutlass retired pro drag car from the 80s that I'm restoring just enough to get back on the road and enjoy it.

Aim for 9.5 to 1 compression, a 2500 stall minimum and at least 3.23 rear gears with that cam. Free is always good.

family member purchased everything then passed away couple years ago , but I couldn't find the valve springs with everything else and just found out the springs are discontinued, kinda frustrating to be honest. Thanks for that info though, much appreciated.

#5 heads will normally require a spring with an installed height of 1.700 or so. I have those if needed.

Would those have the same specs as edelbrock 5712 sure seat non rotator type valve spring? If so I'd be interested.

There is nothing "magical" or special about the Edelbrock valve springs. Have the valve spring pockets been machined deeper for a taller valve spring ? Do you have a valve spring tester ?
#1. Measure the valve spring installed height to determine what you have.
#2. Then contact Cutlassefi for valve springs for your application.

no, the valves spring pockets aren't machined. Edelbrock states that valve spring must be used with that cam/lifter combo on stock olds cast iron heads, I asked if I could use the springs recommended for the performer olds cam and was told no. Different spring pressure/tension. Plan was to assemble the motor with the parts recommended from edelbrock. I don't want to risk destroying anything so I might just put the motor back together with the stock parts, just won't be as fun unfortunately. Thanks for the info though, much appreciated guys.

Ah, you have sales material from Summit about Edelbrock #5712 valve springs.
#1. What is the installed height of these valve springs ?
#2. What is the spring pressure at the installed height ?
#3. Whats the spring pressure at full lift of the cam ?

those are questions I can't answer as don't have the springs to Install and take measurements. Can't find much info other than what Summit has listed.

Call Edelbrock, because you don't have enough information. You have a basic "part description", not the specs you need for the valve springs.
