I've started taking the old disgusting engine and transmission out to make way for the new engine and trans. The machine shop has started it and says the engine and trans should be done around the first. I'm glad because I found out I have to get shoulder surgery on DEC 7th and I won't be able to do any car work for 90 days, that sucks, so I'm trying to get all the heavy work done before then.

 

Today I got the exhaust system off including the manifolds, the starter, drive shaft, all that's left is the cross-member, motor mounts shift linkage and trans lines and it's ready to come out. Then I get the fun job of steam cleaning the engine bay and under carriage. Man it's a mess!

 

Its hard work, but its all worth it in the end. Hope the surgery goes well, so you can get back at it. Don't try to rush it.

Jag, any chance you could give me a measurement on the water pump shaft length (tip to mounting surface)? I'm installing HD cooling on my car and want to see whether my new pump is the right one. Also, if you have a pic of the WP pulley for comparison that would be great. I have a 2 groove and 3 groove set of pulleys. I think I only need 2 since the car doesn't have AC

I don't quite understand what measurement you want, the pump is about 5 1/8 long from gasket mounting surface to fan mounting surface, I gave you 2 pictures maybe they will help. I can't show you pulleys as they are at the shop in the hot tank.

 

I have a 69 350 with #5 heads, the block is being align bored, bored .030 over the deck is being squared and decked to 0 with the EGGE 10.25 pistons, the heads are getting pocket ported and gasket matched on the intake and the exhaust sides, all new valves and hardened seats and all new valve train. I have a performer RPM and a Holley 600 for the top. I just rebuilt a stock 77 HEI with all Pertronix parts and MSD plug wires. Haven't made a final decision on the cam yet as the compression ratio hasn't been establish yet, it won't be very large as I'm going to use this car for summer vacations and long haul car shows.
The transmission is going to be a 200r4 being built by the same shop that's building the engine, I don't have all the specifics on it but they know it has to stand up to the engine, it will have a small 2000 stall converter and I have a shift works 2-4 conversion for my stock floor shifter.
It's not going to be a tire shreader but as the machine shop says it should be pretty spunky.

Well today I got the engine bay clean. I borrowed a steam cleaner from work, man this thing cleaned 46 years of crap off in about an hour and a half, did the bay the complete front suspension and the under side. Last time I did this I did it with a wire brush and it took a week. Anyone cleaning an engine bay go rent one of these they run on kerosene and have an electric pump. Man it worked great.
