I had a general question involving what I assume is the factory small block flywheel/flexplate. So, I have already fully re-installed the TH350 transmission in my 1970 Cutlass. Since it has been cold recently, I haven't worked on the car in over a week now. I was under it yesterday and was about to put the torque converter cover on, when I noticed something I had failed to see before on the flexplate. It appears that before I bought the car, someone had recently ground off a bit of the counterweight. I am not sure why, but I assume that at some point they had tried to install a Chevrolet-type torque converter with the larger mounting points for the torque converter bolts which overlap with this counterweight strip. My main question is, is this amount of lost metal a significant amount that would be enough to throw off the crankshaft balance and cause engine bearing or other damage? To be honest, I really do not want to have to take the transmission back out again, but if I have to, I will do if if this flexplate actually needs to be replaced.
I appreciate any advice over this.
