With water it would be tough to see, maybe use a straight 50w... LOL

I used a Melling M-22FHV pump.
However, I didn't use their bolt on pickup.
I wondered if their bolt on pickup would always be in a set position. How does Melling know what pan I'm going to be using? Answer: They dont.
I used the melling pump with the stock 455 pickup. This way I can position it wherever I want, and then tack weld it in place.
Some thought it was a clever idea, and others thought it was stupid.
Meh.

The pickup tubes are designated by pan depth when ordering it. When we deepened a stock pan. We used a 2" dropped pickup tube. Had a 3/8 nut between it and the pan bottom. Welded the pan up with no problems. I have always used restrictors in the main saddles and restricted push rods, plus a HV pump.

I am also a fan of restricting the cam bearings, but I will never run a push in restictor again due to the fact I had 1 drop down to behind the main bearing on a 350, even though it was loctited in. Nice oil blockage.
I always drill a new oil hole in the cam bearing at .080-.100 inch. These don't move.
I will always wonder why they sell cam bearings that have a .225 oiling hole, and the main bearing will be lucky to have half of the oiling hole line up, before I modify them.
Mondello restrictors are .080 for reference sake.

Man awesome info here. I will start the build at the beginning of the new year (after the holiday's of course).

Just for kicks here is the 403 as I bought it for $50 just as it looks in the pics. I think I got a good deal.
