Need Help With My 74 350! Plz Reply
I have a 1974 Olds Cutlass, and i pull the original enigne and put in a 1972 350 with about 450 horses, but now i want to build a Turbo or blower build.
I would like to know like what sort of heads are the best or what needs to be done with the block and name brands to build it with.

You can do it with the stock heads if you want. A good bottom end is the key, good pistons, rods and at the very least main studs. Also depends on your hp goal.

Yea the car is great but now im looking for that extra punch. With the boost set up im looking for at least 650hp with a small turbo or supercharger set up. and thanks for the help

I know it has Forged internals but cast crank, (i belive it has a 500 lift cam) never took it apart to tell its what i was told. Also has edelbrock intake, with a 750 holley double pump. it has the 7a heads with a port job and all new rocker arms and etc. i bought the engine though a friend of mine. his buddy needed the money, so i only payed 500 bucks with the stand and Hooker Comp Headers, and all pulleys and power steering pump. Even the air cleaner! His friend had it in a 84 cutlass drag car. He said that it should have about 400 to the crank.

he bought the car and never even dropped the pan. he est. around 400. it does have 11.5 cp to. im new to the olds business so please tell me what u think it has. i have the original 10 bolt 8.5 and 2.73s. im trying to get a posi unit out of a TA and using 3.53s gears.

Changing the gears will help a lot. Adding a stall conv. would really help. As far as 11.5:1? with out seeing what it looks like apart I couldn't tell you for sure. I would think your cam and intake wouldn't be the best choice for that much compression. They would work better for an engine around 9.5:1.

1st off, do the gears. With no overdrive, staying conservative is good with a 3.42 or so gear.
Does this thing rattle on premium pump gasoline, no matter what?
Not sure of those numbers, but it sounds like you got a great deal on it.
I imagine you have around a 10:1 engine, but that should still rattle on pump gas. Check your cranking compression, also. If you have a fresh mill, I'd think you should have around 180-190 cranking. That (depending on the cam) will still not be an 11.5 engine, but way too much for the blower engine.
If you change the gears, and do some inexpensive tuning, I am sure that you would have a very scary ride, before the expense of the blower comes to play.

thanks jim. he told me 93 and i have gotten bad gas once and it started to spark knock. but it runs good and no rattles. i now i have to run low cp on a boosted enigne. i was wondering how low. like 8.2-1 or 9-1.

depends on how you're generating the boost. If you use something like a Procharger you can get away with at least 9.5:1 cuz they don't heat the air as much as others do.
