Mystery bracket?

Hey guys, I’m trying to help a friend of mine put his 71 cutlass back together. A “mechanic” took it all apart then disappeared LOL. I put everything back together just like my 76 cutlass but he has a bracket that mine doesn’t have. Could anyone tell me where this goes? I think it ties into the alternator bracket but I cannot figure out how. Any help would be appreciated!

Yes, that is the rear alternator bracket. It straddles the valve cover.

Got it! Thank you sir, I couldn’t figure it out for the life of me. I even went and looked at my brothers 72 and his is like mine. I appreciate you.

Oldsmobile changed the brackets from 71 to 72, I found that out after blasting and painting the brackets from a donor car and then finding out they where for a 72+ not 71 and older
