My shiny old engine

So, about a month ago I yanked the 350 out of my Cutlass Supreme. I had picked up some parts for it and the time had come to clean the engine up, paint it, and put some shiny parts on it. The engine runs great so I didn't open it up. Just new gaskets,(except head gaskets). Anyway, it turned out great and with the few parts I added, it runs stronger than ever. Here's a couple before and after pictures.

Most've gained 50hp by doing that.

You're right about the crud!!! Both ends of the intake gasket were leaking oil, and two frost plugs were leaking anit-freeze. So, there was about 8 pounds of crud built up on the engine. I soaked it in oven cleaner (works awesome) and sprayed it with my pressure washer, so 7.5 pounds of the crud was on me by the time I finished.

The engine is back in, hooked up to the new magnaflow stainless exhaust. I've been driving it around for a few days now. It's running and sounding great!

Nice work!

Never heard of using oven cleaner to get the crud off, but it makes a lot of sense. Out of coincidence I'm doing this today so I'll try it out. Thanks for the tip!
