Milling the heads or thinner gaskets?
Milling the heads or thinner gaskets?
I am wondering what is best. Milling the heads 0.015 or going with a cosmetic gasket. I need to get to 9.0 compression for the cam I bought, but using the Felpro gasket doesn't get me there. I can get a thinner head gasket or I can mill the heads. What are the positives and negatives of each? Also wondering if milling the heads with create problems with the 3711 intake I plan to use. I read somewhere that you should mill the heads 0.015 to use that intake but I can't find that information again. Thanks
Milling the heads means the inlet ports are slightly off position, and you can't put the metal back. I don't know what you have done to the rest of the engine, but the best way to increase c.r. is a change of pistons.

Do you have the part number for that thin Fepro head gasket? Milling that amount won't cause problems. I assume this is like mine, a mid 70's short block with early heads. The heads need CCd along with where the pistons sit in the hole, which is usually .025 to .030" for a factory built short block.
