Machine Shop Suggestions
Wondering if there is a machine shop that can be recommended within driving range of Nashville? I have a '68 442 with a 395558 block that I may rebuild or decide to replace with something a little larger, depending on the costs of a performance rebuild. From an availability standpoint, it looks like finding an appropriate 400 isn't gonna be easy.
Driving distance for me is 5 or 6 hours...
Thanks!

I don't want to say too much negative things about Mondello Performance Products, I spent a lot of money with them many years ago. Back in the eighties the Olds comunity did not have as many choices for performance parts. Joe Mondello, the founder, was an innovator known for head porting and high performance Oldsmobile builds. I spoke with him many times, he used to answer the phone at Mondo's. He was always fair and tried to help me, never cut me short, and answered plenty of stupid questions. Some time ago Lynn Welfringer took over as the general manager of Mondello Performance Products and since then the companies' reputation has been less than steller. Do a search on here or over on ROP and draw your own conclussion. Luckily we have plenty of other options that specialize in Olds. Joe went on to have a porting school and his own machine shop in Tennesee called Joe Mondello Racing Engines. Codey, (or CJ), is the head machinist there. You can see some of his handy work here-

Bernard Mondello, Joe's son, is also a stand up guy, that's helped introduce the new Procomp heads to the Olds community. Joe Mondello passed away almost two years ago but is still known to be one of the biggest positive influences in the Olds community.
