issue with Factory Olds Hi-Performance Manifold
issue with Factory Olds Hi-Performance Manifold
Okay, I noticed my manifold was leaking a little oil in the back near the distrib.I followed the trail from the top of my oil filter to the top of the back side of the Manifold. This is I think the Factory Olds Hi-Performance manifold. When I went to order one(gasket) they said there were 2 avalible. One has a Valley pan and the other doesen't. I think I can see the Valley pan on the sides of mine sticking slightly out, but would like a expert to sign on before I order this non-refundable part. Any issues I should know about on this change out as well would be appreciated. The motor is pictured in the photo's, As always thanks for all the kind assistance.

I personally like the "turkey tray" gaskets and have never had an issue with either a cast or aluminum intake. Here is how I do it. Clean the head and intake surfaces. Using the brush on aviation style sealant, I liberally coat both sides of the intake manifold runners. I use RTV black on both sides of the coolant passages. I toss the end rails and instead lay down a THICK bead of RTV black on the end rails of the block. Some guys use a punch to "dimple" the end rails, I do not and have not had a leak, but it certainly would not hurt. Torque to 30 ft/lbs for iron (25 ft/lbs on aluminum) in the proper sequence. Go through the sequence several times. Do it again after a few heat cycles.
