Is the intake valley baffle needed?

OK, I know there are posts regarding this topic, but I have not found the specific answer to the need of the lifter baffle. I am rebuilding my 350, completely, I am ready to install the intake manifold, and I have a new valley pan (turkey tray) gasket. I do not recall removing a baffle under the original turkey tray, but the threaded holes are there.

Is the lifter baffle under the turkey tray required? If so, where can they be obtained.

Thanks

It is not required. Some engines have it, some don't; same thing for the drilled holes. My engine doesn't have the holes, and obviously doesn't have the baffle, either.

The holes in your SBO valley are an artifact of the 330 motor, which used a baffle and separate intake gaskets. When Olds went to the one-piece turkey tray design, they stopped using the baffle on SBOs.

BBOs for some reason retain the baffle and the turkey tray intake.

Baffle

Thank you for the info. I was confused as the Olds service manual shows/refers to it, but there wasn't one when I disassembled it. Now I can proceed!
