Red face Intake Manifold Swap Question

Can I use a stock 4 barrel intake manifold and carburetor from a 1974 Delta 88 350 to replace the 2 barrel manifold and carburetor on a 1972 Delta 88 with a 350? Will the 1974 manifold bolt up to the 1972 engine without any issues? I see that different intake gaskets are used on the 72s and 74s. If this swap will work, which gasket should be used? Any other issues to consider for this swap? Thanks for your time and replies.

It will fit but you are adding an EGR valve if that matters to you.

It will bolt on, no issues, might be minor differences in throttle hook up. The difference is the center exhaust crossover in the cylinder head, is why they use different gaskets. It smaller on your 72 motor. Use the 74 gasket, it will seal on the cast iron around the crossover. You could go the other way but the embossed sealing area won't contact the crossover port on the manifold.

Thanks for your reply and also advice on the intake gasket. I'm using a low mileage, '72 rocket engine to replace a tired '74 rocket engine in my '79 Chevy C10 pickup. My C10 was bought new by my father in 1979 and was originally equipped with the 350 Diesel engine. The Diesel was prone with blowing head gaskets and bit the dust at 25K miles in 1983. At that time, I replaced the Diesel with the 74 Olds Rocket 350 and made it a much better truck. It was an easy swap. I'll rebuild my 74 engine with over 300K miles as time permits and keep as a spare.

I also swapped an Olds 307 then Olds 350 in my 78 1/2 ton. Then that motor went in my 94 Z71 which the block heater shorted out and burnt to the ground. An Olds gas V8 was an easy fix for the terrible Olds diesel. I did it because the small block Olds is my favorite V8. The Olds 307 out performed either sbc 350 with the 2.78 gears in the 78.
