Identify this item???

Identify this item???

Tearing down the 350 in my 1971. What is the purpose of the vacuum controlled valve at the rear of the intake. It is inline with one of the heater hoses and shown in the picture below.

Heater water valve! Flow is shut off when A/C is on MAX or system is OFF.

Guess that means a replacement is in my future. Anyone know the part number or if a aftermarket part is available?

Rockauto should have them also. Before installing, make sure it opens when vacuum is applied to it and not the other way around like the later years do.

It keeps the engine from pumping water through the heater core ALL of the time.
Especially nice on cars that have the fan pumping air all the time.

Could be a chevy style valve. The pictures of the valve on the O'Reilly and RockAuto site don't look anything like the one I have.

I don't know that you'll find a small diaphram one any more.
