Horsepower

So my engine is finally rebuilt but I have a question. How much horsepower did a stock 1972 350 Rocket in a Cutlass Supreme come with. According to the shop my engine ended around the 360 horsepower make. Is that decent for a street rebuild for just a little extra power?

If it really does make 360 hp thats plenty for some fun on the street and some decent 1/4 mile times for a street car. Did they provide a dyno sheet. Im pretty sure if you gave the details of the build guys on here can probably confirm if that is a realistic hp number based on you build.

I'll post the details as soon as I get to my notebook. I'm really just learning engines as this is my first rebuild so I write everything down so I can keep up with the details. The only thing I can remember off the top of my head is that it is bored over .30, he used #8 heads, and the compression is supposed to be 9.5/1. I'm not sure if they have a dyno sheet or not but I'll def find out when I pick the motor up.

I believe stock HP for a 72 350 was 180 for 4bbl and single exhaust, 200 for 4bbl and dual exhaust.
72 was also the beginning of the 'new' method of reporting HP with all engine accessories hooked up.
I found 200 to be plenty of fun for me. Of course more is even more fun!

Setting the Pace says the base (L32) '72 350, whether Cutlass or Delta 88, had 160 hp while the optional (L34) 350 put out 180. I'm guessing the difference is 2 or 4-bbl?

No, same cam and compression for all 350s.

Yup. Different compression ratios ended after 1970.

If I recall, '68-up 2 and 4-bbl had the same cam, too (except W31, and maybe some other low-production motor - I've forgotten since I did the research).

But, anyway, the only difference in '72 was definitely the carb.

Yes, 160 for 2bbl single exh, 180 for 4bbl single exh, 200 for 4bbl dual exh.
