Header Collector/Reducer Help!!
Header Collector/Reducer Help!!
Hello All,
I bought a set of hooker 3901hkr headers for my 72 supreme, I've purchased the gaskets, ARP bolts, etc. to do the job right. I am not an exhaust guy but I am very mechanically inclined. I plan to install the headers, gaskets, etc. I know they'll need a lil tweaking but I'm a boat guy so I'm used to these sort of excerises in futility. The only question I have for you guys is what collector/reducer to choose. I currently have stock exhaust that I made dual exhaust. With a crossover pipe. I took the caliper to it and i'm coming up with 2-1/4 OD pipe. It says the Hooker 3901HKR has a 2-1/2 outlet so I'm wondering do I go with a 2-1/2 outlet to 2-1/2 outlet and slide the collector over the pipe and clamp it until I take it to the muffler shop for welding or do I choose a 2-1/2 to 2" and slid it inside of the pipe and clamp as I'm not seeing a 2-1/2 to 2-1/4 collector reducer. I can also buy the band style clamps, etc. just to get me by until I can get them welded on. I'm working at my buddies place so I would just need to get about 30 miles without dragging a ton of sparks down the freeway LOL! Thanks in advance!!!!

Thanks guys, I was thinking this as well. I just saw various installs were taking the collector and (welding or clamping) it directly to the pipe and then bolting it to the header, without the reducer. I was having a tough time figuring out how this would work for me without the use of a reducer. I'll go with the collector 2-1/2 to 2-1/2 collector and then use this reducer to get what I'm after.
Thanks!
Thanks!
z11375ss, I think that would do exactly what I need. I can have the collectors pre welded to those connections, hook them up to the headers and then I only have to slip the other side on and clamp it until I get to the exhaust shop to weld it. Any clue on the brand? I like those connections as that's pretty much how mine is set up stock to the manifolds now and I have never had any leaks. Sorry for the simple minded question I posted, but even with cars it seems like you go looking on the net and find you have too much info that only confuses you. It's like looking up how to heal a scratch, next thing you know you have some disease there is no cure for!!!! Let me know on the brand if you have a chance, if not I'll do some searching and find an equivalent. I always do a ton of research before half assing these old cars. Every tip I have gotten from you guys made for an easy install and ensured I had all the parts before I started a project only to realize I forgot something. Much appreciation once again!!! Thank you all!
