Hardly Running

I'm having trouble with my 71 350 Cutlass. Starts fine, but one it gets warmed up, thingso go really bad! It shakes terribly at idle, like it's running on 4 cylinders. Because it's been sitting for a couple years, I pulled the Edelbrock carb and cleaned it well. Now it doesn't run well while cold OR warm, lol. I'm puzzled. Where do I go with this?

Since you pulled the carb and cleaned it, I guess I"d first start there with checking choke adjustment, f/a mix and float settings. Set the floats to factory spec which can be found in the edelbrock manual. I've always had a hell of a time with my edelbrock 1406 until only recently with the addition of a fuel pressure regulator.

But you need to start with the basics first. Float adjustment first, fuel air mix screws and choke.

After that, if it still runs like crap, then you need to look at ignition issues such as timing, spark and all that.

Did you run the old fuel that was in the gas tank. Does it smell foul like varnish?

Anytime a engine has a poor running difference between cold and hot I go to the choke first. Possible vacuum leak after you remove carb.

All good suggestions. Thanks! The gas is 6 months old and smells normal. I'll check on the float level and look for vacuum leaks.

Another car running like **** with an Edelbrock carb, get in line, many have issues. Check for vacuum leaks, old gas also can cause rough running and may have plugged passages inside.

Did you happen to turn the carb upside down when cleaning?
