exhaust manifolds

hey guys need some help for a friend of mine he has a 1980 cutlass with a olds 307 in it doubt its original motor. we had a failed attempt to install a set of blackjack headers. no way they'll go in without picking the motor up and denting the hell out of them to make them work . I'm trying to talk him into stock manifolds will 350 rocket exhaust manifolds work on that motor?and any ideas where to get duel exhaust manifolds for a reasonable price? thanks

There are no true dual exhaust manifolds for the SBO. They all have the crossover port on the PS manifold that needs to be capped.

Good to know that would still be better than this header nightmare should I just be looking for used set ?

What?
What about Thornton's DE-only RH manifold?

$300 the set, bam, you are done.

And, yes, for any headers, esp. cheap ones, you can expect to lift the motor a little... and beat the snot out of interfering parts and/or cut off parts and move the brake junction, and...

So is it safe to assume more expensive headers will fit better I'm considering them on my 72?

Assume?
Hella no
I have HEARD that Hookers fit right, but have never been able to use any.
It is more likely that higher end products need "less" banging denting and custom fitting, I would say.

I know it took a week of custom fitting and cutting to modify 68-72 350 Blackjacks to fit my '67 Cutlass with the 330 engine.

I think I'll go with the thortons for my car the extra few horses you get from headers aren't worth the aggravation .as for the 80 cutlass maybe we'll keep pounding on the blackjacks thanks for the info always appreciated

I have a set of stock exh manifolds, #17 2506300 RH fits 260, 307 thru 87 a bodies, and a #1 380001 LH sbo, the #17 already has the crossover port welded shut. $60 for the pair + shipping.

A great cheap alternative. I have one RH manifold on which I brazed the crossover inlet shut with a piece of heavy stainless. Never found a buyer. It's pitted and would be dirt cheap at this time. #4 casting I believe.

It's a bigger challenge at 50 than it was at 25 but I have more patience now

More patience, and more skin thickness...takes more repeated effort to scrap it down to the bone

Ha, did not see that
Everything in the garage sounds naughty
shafts
holes
screwing together
strippers [for wiring]
nuts
polishing your part
etc.

Hold the phone...I ran true dual exhaust using stock Olds manifolds and not W31's. The problem with all right hand exhaust manifolds is you have to block off the extra port for the pipe that goes under the oil pan. If blocked, this still will disrupt the flow of exhaust gasses. So how did I get around this? 1978-1985 Toronado right side manifold. It doesn't have a pipe going under the oil pan as the trans axle is there. It can be used in a G-body (had mine in a 81 Cutlass) Fits perfect, exhaust is a straight shot no weird angles and doesn't hit the firewall.
