Engine Mount Heat Shield

On a 1972 350 why did the driver side engine mount have a heat shield behind it but not on the passenger side engine mount?

Likely because the driver side mount is in tension and the passenger side is in compression, so the driver side is far more highly loaded. Heat softens the rubber, potentially leading to premature failure.

Plus, from what I remember, the driver manifold goes straight down, so the exhaust pipe is really close to the mount. Less so on the passenger side. I think. It's been a couple of decades.

On single exhaust cars the crossover pipe is just as close to the motor mount on the passenger side.
