Engine and drivetrain

Wondering what cheap drivetrain setup would be a step up from the sb350 and automatic trans I got in my ‘72 supreme

I merged your 2 threads, there is no need to start multiple threads for the same question. I don't understand your question? What are you trying to accomplish?

If you are looking for Chevy swap info, look in the Non-Olds Engine forum. Otherwise, define "cheap". Any Olds V8 from 260 to 455 bolts in.

I would do gears, higher stall and dual exhaust before touching the motor. If the motor is tired, add Mahle 10cc dish pistons, a better cam, 2"/1.625" W31 valves and a basic overhaul will add a big boost. If the trans is in good shape, add a Transgo skirt kit and a 2000+ stall torque converter. The factory 1600 stall sucks something awful. Also 3.08 or 3.23 gears will improve performance. Those three will be a big seat of the pants improvement and sound better.
