Edelbrock Carburetor

I have a '77 Olds 350 engine in my '68 Cutlass. I installed the Edelbrock Performer 350 manifold and an Edelbrock carbuerator. However I am having problems with the kickdown linkage clearance. I had to bend that linkage back a little to get it to clear a port on the left side of the manifold. Now I am not sure how far I can bend this bracket and still alow the kickdown switch to work properly. As of now I have bent it back enough to install the carburetor but not enough to be able to get a bolt in that bracket to hook up the kick down switch. Did Edelbrock not think about this linkage clearance before they put their products on the market? Will I be ok if I bend that linkage back horizontally? Is their a linkage out their that will solve my problem? Has anyone else ran into this or am I just being a moron here?

I was thinking about getting a Performer manifold and think that the #3711 manifold with the EGR fitting can only be used with the stock OEM carb according to Edelbrock?

Check it out.

The set up will work, you need to use a spacer under your carb...at least half inch.

I knew there was some trick. How does an original air cleaner fit with that spacer? Those cowl to core support bars on the Vista make it pretty tight getting on and off as it is. I think I will be going with a stock manifold and carb. I'm a factory original appearing type, I don't even have a tattoo.

If I go with a 1/2" spacer, you think I will have enough clearance when I put the hood on?

You would have to lose one of the 2...the bars or the air cleaner!

Is the width of the Edelbrock/Carter style carb the Same as the width of a Holley?

I've got a carter 625 on my 330 now, and it has the 1" spacer on it raising it up enough to clear that EGR boss... I was hoping that the holley might be narrow enough to fit without using a spacer. Thoughts?

Well, since neither of the two automatic transmissions available in 1968 even used a kickdown cable, I assume this is a TH350, also out of the 77? If so, why not just get the 69-72 A-body cable and accelerator pedal and run the cable through the firewall to the accelerator instead of to the carb. You'll need to cut a small square hole in the firewall adjacent to the accelerator cable hole (the 69-72 cars got the hole punched at the factory).

Yes this is a TH350 from a '77. I suppose that would aleviate a lot of headache just running it through my firewall. Not quite sure exactly how it hooks up to the pedal but something I could research.
