cylinder identification

After replacing points with a Pertronix, I need to adjust the timing on my 1949 Olds with the 303. To do so, I need to know which cylinder is #1. Can anyone tell me what the layout is for the cylinders? Drivers side front to rear, passenger side front to rear?
I cant seem to find this info in the original service manuals. Strange.
Thanks, Nathan

Front driver's side as indicated in the diagram above. Many of those stage 1 engines had the cylinder numbers cast into the intake manifold.
