Cylinder head cleaning.
Cylinder head cleaning.
Alright so i just aquired a 362 olds in a cash and trade deal for the 455 that was in my 77 cutlass. I needed cash and and engine to make the deal work . Not what i wanted to do but it worked out. Now the short block was ran and recently freshend up the cylinder heads can use some cleaning which is where my question falls. Im just looking to clean the surface rust so i can paint them nice. What would work best. I have access to chemical stripping but i do not know what material the guides are if they are bronze which i doubt they are the chemical will gall it up. i can also media blast it with many medias but soda is the only one that wont etch the valve seats. What would be my best approach herer. i have never had a set of cylinder heads i cleaned up that werent getting full rebuild.
I would not have an issue with the but there is rust in the runners down into the bowls the chambers are clean but Im yet to pull a valve out to see how the seats look. I dont want that crap blowing into the cylinders.
I looked at them just now they are not that bad. Im probably gonna soda blast them just to clean em up. then im going to have a shop check em out but for now that stuff is sitting untill i get the new 355 in the 72 and some bodywork done on the 77 .
