Chambered vs magnaflow or flowmaster etc...

Which would be better I'm looking for a more muscle car rumble?

IMHO

Magnaflow. I've got Flowmasters on my drop top and don't care for them.

That would be personal preference. Any of those will give you the "muscle car" rumble, it all depends on how much of it you want to hear inside the cabin and how much drone you can handle.

Personally I like the flowmaster 50 series delta flow (3 chamber) - it gives the sound with less noise inside the cabin than the 40 series. IIRC the flowmaster site has sound clips of their mufflers to give you an idea on which one you are looking for.

i like my magnaflows(dual). they're pretty quiet unless you're "horsing it", then they speak fairly loud, but not obnoxiously.

This topic get beated to death on Aleromod.com, so here's what the views are over there. Please note that this is on 60* V6 motors and not a 90* like a SBC or SBO.

Some people like Magaflow, most perfer Flowmaster.

I had straight thrus on my Aleroand they sounded good for a while, but after all the fiberglass crap gets blown out and the hollow, they sound horrible. I've had 2 80's on my Alero (at different times) and they were not too bad, but they drone like crazy around 2000 RPM's. Right now I have 2 Flowmaster Super 44's on the Alero and I love it. They sound great, very loud at WOT, but after 3800 RPMs start to sound a little ricy, then again this is a 60* V6 Chevy we are talking about here. The Alero has a FULL exhaust

On my Delta, I had 2 Super 40's with "X" pipe duals. Sounded good. Car wasn't too loud. Nice low rumble. This was with a 1968 Olds 350 with 307 exhaust manifolds.

Magnaflows sound decent on a V8, but IMHO Flowmasters sound better. I was considering doing those $20 tube glasspaks on my next project though. Depends on what I get

The (no)Flowmasters consistently flow less than comparable mufflers in magazine tests. At least they have the annoying drone. Walker Dynomax for me. Against my better judgement I put a Magnaflow on my 62 due to better packaging, and I'm regretting it. Still too loud for my 50+ year old tastes.

But none of the clips include that annnoying drone! I had Delta Flow 50 3 chamber, took them off, then Magnaflows, better but still not what I wanted. I have Dynomax Long case Turbos now, I like them.

Remember if you have a stock motor getting any kind of "muscle car" rumble will be that much more difficult.

On-line sound clips are about as accurate as on-line color chips. The quality depends on your sound card and speakers.

I have the Dynamax like cutlassefi. I used stock manifolds, but am going to long tube headers. I love them. I hope I still have the same opinion after I get done.

BigJerr - you car is just awesome all around

In honesty just like I said in my original post, it is all a matter of personal preference. Every thing about your exhaust build will play a part in the sound of it, including what you have under the hood.

My cousin whos a mechanic couldnt believe how good it sounded either....he actually went out and bought the mufflers for his car

I used the long body Magnaflows and a H pipe on my 65 when I upgraded the exhaust and I think it sounds nice, it only has a drone when it's warming up in the garage, inside the car it sounds great, even my wife likes it now.
