Carburetor for 215 cu

Hello,

My 1963 Cutlass F-85 has a 215c.i. engine, automatic transmision and a Rochester carburetor quadrajet
( I dont know if this is the carburetor of factory or it has been replaced and before there was a 2 barrel)

If I want replace the carburetor because a lot damaged, which model I must try and is better for my engine? (always quadrajets,4 barrel)

You know a precise model that it's Ok (edelbrock, or other)

(now do not exist the aluminium plate with stamped carburetor codes)

Thanks!

Actually, that's not a Q-jet, it's a Rochester 4GC, which was the precursor to the Q-jet. You can get 4GCs as rebuilt carbs, and there's nothing wrong with that carb. I have also used the 500 CFM Carter AFB (now Edelbrock) carb on a 215 with good results. The AFB will bolt directly to the square bore 215 intake manifold.

Thanks for reply,

Over my carburetor there is write "4-jet" ....

Well,
If I have understood well, to part the 4CG, any other carburetor 500cmf Carter AFB or Edelbrock it's ok to mount on my 215 intake manifold.. right?

if not, are you a exact codes of carburetor that I must buy?

That's the same basic carburetor, but there are two problems with the ones you've shown. First, since they are Chevy carbs, the throttle arm man not be the correct shape for your application. Second, your engine is only 215 cu in. The Chevy carbs are sized and jetted for what are likely much larger engines (probably 283-327) and will not run properly on your car.

When I used the 500 CFM AFB carb, I still had to get a jetting kit and change the metering rods to suit my engine.

Hallo

As you will see there where different 215 cui engine types offered in 1963.The F-85 got 155 hp and a 2bbl carb, the Cutlass F-85 185 hp and a 4bbl carb.
Our car is a Cutlass F-85.Because the Rochester was worn, our dealer mounted a Holley 8050 Carb. The engine works very well with this part
