cam walk
Im looking at a motor and the seller mentioned the motor suffered from a new cam walking and damaging the timing cover...I imagine the cam bearings will be shot and require a complete tear down?

Opened up the motor today and see no damage anywhere.motor looks freshly rebuilt with no miles. All the timing components are missing.previous owner states something went through the timing cover??? Any ideas?

Broke the PIN OUT OF THE CAMSHAFT?
That's a new one for me. Sounds like cam bolt was improperly secured, which allowed it to unscrew, touch the timing cover, allow the eccentric to come loose, then the loose sprocket snapped the pin out of the cam, breaking the cam.
Any pix of the timing cover?
Anyhow, it looks like a new cam and timing set and you can be back in business with this motor. I would look at ALL other details too, starting with does the LH oil passage have a holey plug in the at end.
The distributor gear is constantly drawing the cam aft, so the cams rarely touch the timing cover. Mainly if you crash into a tree with the engine running.

What you see is what I bought...cam shaft recommendations for a 395558 block with #8 heads? Im thinking I can re use the push rods and lifters? I still need another engine in which to steal a timing cover and accessory pulleys..

Don't forget to pull out those 2 blades of grass as well ![Big Grin](https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
The cam in my 330 "walks" a bit too, but no damage to the chain, timing cover, or eccentric. Motor holds 35 PSI oil pressure at idea with a stock pump, so I'm just going to drop in in my Delta as is

If it is still around 8 to 1 compression, I would look at the Lunati high efficiency series 207/207 .461/.461 112 lsa. Cutlassefi offers a similar cam ground on a tighter lobe seperation. Find out what pistons are in it, how far in the hole and head gaskets.
