Blowback

went and picked up my F-85 yesterday. I have worked on this car before, I was woundering if someone could tell me what would cause hi pressure blowing out of the valve cover hole. If I pull the pcv valve out of the valve cover while its runnig itts like a reverse vacum, light smoke and I assume oil. (ther was ooil on the top of the intake manifold after our 2 hour drive home at 70.mph). Ran very smooth tho.Didnt seem to have any iother isues. Smoked a little on acceleration.
Its a 61 F-85 215 CU 2 bbl

Thanks

It's called blowby, basically the rings may not be sealing the combustion gases in the cylinders. It also can be caused by poor valve guide seals. Another cause can be a defective PVC can. This is what causes the smoke to emit from the valve covers and the oil fill tube.

An effective band aid for me on my old 330, was to run a vent tube from the opposite valve cover of the PCV to the base or the side of the carb air cleaner housing and suck the offending smoke back through the engine.

The mod also created a bit more positive ventilation in the engine block preventing oil from being pushed up the dipstick and oil filler tube.

Had I not seen it work on my sons Probe, with 117k on it, I'd not mention it.
He used a can of Slick 50 per directions on the bottle, and his oil consumpion and blow-by were reduced by about 90%, and he even picked-up some gas mileage!
Can't hurt to try, but please keep us informed!!
