Bill Travato.

Just curious if any of you have had Bill Travato build you an engine? I have his book and it is a wealth of good knowledge.

I had an idea for rather tame 434 DX build. Bill was very accommodating as I had him double check my math, plan & parts. I got really lucky and a forum member that worked near me, but lived up that way, loaded my block, 2 cranks and most of the rest of the parts in his frickin Honda, drive up there with the front tires barely touching the ground & dropped them off to Bill.

I was kept informed, received regular bills and when it was done, Bill came in & dynoed it with me on Saturday of July 4th weekend, then we packed it up & I drove home. Drove it Sunday night and to work on Monday. Still running great 15+ years later.

Bill was a no BS, straightforward, honest, communicative, competent, sometimes amusing, pleasure to deal with.

I came up with a badass but very conservative engine. After talking with Bill about the girdle he had I went for it. Then after thinking of how many times I was gonna pay shipping both ways because I wanted him to do the machine work I just had him build it. The result? A 403 block at 4.362x4,0” billet crank, pump gas that made 680 HP. Probably the baddest pump gas true street small block Oldsmobile. I ended up selling it literally recently. I did the engine for my 66 but it’s taking forever to get it done. I installed it in my 83 HO for a while. Bill is a to the point type of guy. He does extremely high quality work. You will get what you want

Bill has built the last two engine in the '70 in my signature.
The first was 10 years old before It got a refresh. The 2nd is 8 years old and still going strong.

Pump gas, 623hp...
He builds some great engines.

I resemble that remark...lol

It would have been a lot easier if it had been a hatchback...

I've bought a couple of cams, the lifters and a couple sets of Edelbrock heads from him. No BS, just power.

Bill is one of the best, if not the best. I guess I have the second baddest pump gas true street small block at 656HP. Built by Bill. Alot of Olds racers go to him.

Tell him what you want. He will help guild you to fulling it. Here an old video of him working!

I have seen this. One of the things that impressed me about him is his attention to detail..

Run from any engine builder/machinist that doesn't play attention to detail.

Agreed. I had a builder years ago in central Virginia build my Pontiac 455. He was very meticulous, and it still runs very strong and nice
