Best Exhaust for 350 Rocket

So I finally have my 350 Rocket back in my 72 Supreme and I'm trying to decide on the best exhaust for it. I want something that sounds extremely deep. I'm wondering if dual flowmaster 40s or magnaflows would do the trick? Any advice on other exhaust options would be greatly appreciated. I have the 442 bumpers with the exhaust cutouts as well as the 2.5 inch trumpet tips and I'm looking to run a 3 inch exhaust from the headers back to the the muffler...

Just my .02, but I would go with 2 1/2". 3" duals seems to big for the 350.

As for mufflers, I prefer flowmaster.... but the are loud. If you want deep and mellow, go with California Turbos, or thrush turbo.

I was told that the Pypes brand 2 1/2" x-pipe exhaust system was a good one to go with. You can get them through Summit racing. You can get it with turbo mufflers for around $325 I believe or with chambered mufflers for closer to $400. I went with the turbos to save a little money but was told the chambered ones have a lower more old school sound.

Muffler selection is very much a matter of personal preference. Some people love Flowmasters, but most can't stand the drone. I prefer Walker DynoMax, a good sound but not obnoxious. I also have Magnaflow on my 62 and it started out too loud for me but has quieted down. Either my hearing is getting worse or the fiberglass packing in the muffler has been coated with carbon, deadening the sound. I like it a lot better now. Also check muffler flow tests. Flowmasters have the unique property of being obnoxiously loud while still being the most restrictive mufflers in published tests. Do you want volume or performance?

I run a 2.5 in. summit brand x pipe with hooker aero chamber mufflers. with out the mufflers i run one tenth faster in the 1/4 mile. they sound awesome and perform very well. On a mild build they sound nice. with the new engine it's louder than snot. But i dont mind.

Do you have them? Got a sound clip? Google reveals all else, but DynoMax.

Jim Hand's muffler test is the benchmark for performance mufflers, and excellent reading material:

http://www.pontiacstreetperformance....p/exhaust.html

I have large case Dynomax Turbos on the clone, they are fairly quiet until you get into it, are acceptable then, and you can carry a conversation on the highway with the windows down.

I've tried flowmasters, too loud for me, and tried the aerochambers, also too loud. Ran RacePros and they are supposed to be quieter than StreetPros, still too loud.

I have large case Goerlich turbos on my driver, are acceptably quiet around town with no drone on the highway, but when you get into it, they're kinda loud. Acceptable though, and a unique sound, I like them for that car.

It's hard to beat the Dynomax Turbos, even if they're not as loud as some like.

I have Pypes systems on all my cars, but I've found that the driver's tailpipe is slightly toed in, and the trumpet isn't centered in the bumper as nice as I would like. I have also heard that the tailpipes require some work to fit right. Torque Tech has a system that is supposed to fit real well, but I haven't tried one in a while.

2.5" mandrel bent with headers should be plenty for performance on a 350.

If you look at my build thread, you'll see I originally went with FlowTech, but they hung down too low. So I swapped them with Hookers. The hookers are pretty nice, I like them, fit well, don't hang down, and decent (but somewhat small) primaries. The collector is 2.5", only complaint I have, should have been a more standard 3 - 3.5".

I personally have no experience with other brands, but have heard that JRs are ok. Doug's too, think they may have a set. (Not cheap).

For the money, it's hard to beat the Hookers.

Oh no, the dreaded Supreme engine offset! Just get the "regular" Cutlass headers for your year. Same everything. I have.a 72Supreme with Hookers, no problem. Ken
