AC / non AC Alternator Brackets

I have another silly question for the experts.

I found an alternator bracket from an AC car for a nice price. My 1968 Cutlass 350 had a (non-functioning) aftermarket under-the-dash AC installed when I bought it, so my crank pulley has four grooves.

My question is, will an alternator bracket from an AC car work on a non AC car if I have the right pulleys?

Thanks again!

Probably, but may have to shim something since there is aftermarket stuff already in place. Stock non-ac cars had 2 groove pulleys with PS on drivers side and alt on the passenger side. AC cars had 3 grooves with PS & alt on drivers side and compressor on passenger side. Are you keeping some form of AC? Using the AC setup without a compressor will be more prone to squeals and some may say stress water pump bearings. Your alt bracket should have the rear brace too.

That makes sense. I will browse the classifieds, and eBay to see if I can find the correct alternator bracket. Thanks!
