Cool 79 OLDS 350 BUILD UP

HI OLDS HEADS. IM NEW TO THIS SITE I HOPE IM IN THE RIGHT PLACE TO POST MY QUESTION THIS TIME I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU TO THE TWO GUYS THAT RESPONED TO MY EARLIER POST.I WAS IN A RUSH THIS MORNING SO I REALLY DIDNT GET TO ASK WHAT IT IS IM TRYING TO DO SO HERE IT IS. IF THERE IS ANY ONE THATS EVERY OWNED OR HAVE A 79 OLDS 350 THATS BEEN BUILT UP BUT IS STREET LEGAL BY STREET LEGAL I MEAN ABLE TO PASS SMOG AND HAVE ALL EMISSIONS
EQUIPMENT IS WHAT IM TALKING.IM LOOKING TO GET SOME WHERE NEAR OR CLOSE TO 300HP IM WORKING ON GETTING A SET OF #5 HEADS TO START SO IF THERE IS ANY ONE THAT COULD POINT ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION WOULD BE GREAT THANKS ROCCETMAN /CALI

Where are you? I have a set of 7's as is and a set of J's all done. You'll want to keep the compression and valve overlap reasonable if you have an emissions issue.

One thing that will help is a tight squish or quench area. That will reduce NOx emissions as well as CO and HC's.

I'm sure you will find a bunch of good info here. Use it to your advantage.

I LIVE IN THE INLAND VALLEY AREA. THIS BUILD OF THE 79 OLDS IS TO BE STREET LEGAL HERE IN CALI WE HAVE STRICT SMOG LAWS BUT I HEAR I COULD GET AWAY WITH IT IF I KEEP THE BUILD SIMPLE AND MILD

You're right. I know for a fact that if it comes in SOUNDING like a performance car it will get scrutinized that much more. I'm sure you'll be able to build something that wil satisfy both you and the sniffer.

GOOD MORNING CUTLASSEFI I FORGOT TO RESPOND TO YOU ABOUT THE HEADS YOU HAVE I WAS WONDERING IF THOSE HEADS FLOW BETTER THAN THE #5 HEADS THAT CAME ON THE EARLIER OLDS S/B 350 [68/69/70]

Early 5, 6, or 7's all flow about the same. The later ones had an exhaust hump in the port if my info is right. I have 7's on my EFI'd .350 now. building another 350 but with Edelbrocks. That's why I have a spare set. Got J's as well, all done with 2.00 valves.
