72 350 rods?

How much can the stock rods take if going with 10:25/1 cr should I replace them and if so with what?

IMO, stck rods are fine to 6,000 rpm and 400 HP. Unless you have a big cam and head work, you should be OK. Just recondition them, replace the bolts, and loosen up the clearance to .0020-.0025. Balance the rotating assembly, too. Very few aftermarket options.

From what I've read, all olds rods are forged...but they are soft.
I would invest in a new set...

Those are big block rods. Stock rods for this application are fine. Use a light piston and they're even better.

I used stock rods in quite a few of my builds. They were winged to 6200 all the time. I sold a few sets of rods to local mud packers in my area a few years back. The hot set up was run 6" Olds rods in their SBCs and used a .030 under bearing and I assume a bushed small end. Because the Olds rods were stronger than the Chubby's and got a 6" rod for a 5.7".

Rolds72 your set up is identical to mine minus the trans. I runa th400. The stock stuff has held for me great even the used cast flat tops.

Seems like whenever we try to build something other than a Chevy,we pay out the nose.
Sorry about the above recommendation..ebay lists the 6.7 rod for both the 350 and 455,...I now realize the 350 uses a 6 inch rod.
If you start buying custom rods and pistons, and turning the crank...your better off just going with a 455...more options.
I chose to keep my bottom end stock and just go with a big cam and have some fun.
I have all summer off and I'm going racing...I'm gonna see just how much abuse my 35 year old motor can take.

mondello offers small block rods, $499...

i've often wondered about cryo treating rods, i wonder if that would toughen them up?

Rods

I have a 362 Olds and love my SBO.
Enclosed is a pic of a set of Mondello MR710 rods that have polished beams, shot peened with good bolts for pressed pins.
Next to the MR710 is Mondello's new 6" olds I beam rod good for 850 hp, floating pins.
I searched high and low and those are your only options for a direct fit replacement rod without cutting your crank or using crazy Chebby pistons.
The MR 710 rods are for sale if your interested.

Sorry

Sorry there is no pic as promised.
I guess I am still a newbie here and can not post yet.
There is a pic on Mondello's home page of the new 6" rods.
They are the same price as their MR710 rods $499.

Well a few years ago I bought a set of 6" rods from Mondildo, trying to save time. Had to replace 5 bolts, resize two rods and one my machinest couldn't save and had to redo one of the old rods. That is the last thing I will ever buy from them.

You can also take the stock rods and polish the beams and have them shot peened, that helps a lot. IMHO with the build you have I wouldn't worry.
