67 CS engine water valve
67 CS engine water valve
OK here is a pic from the 1967 service manual that shows the engine to heater water valve. I see that it has a vacuum line hooked to it that goes to the in dash controls. I have two cars one with Air conditioning and the other without. Both do NOT have this water valve. So I’m not familiar with its purpose. Any help is always good help,
Thanks Brian
All 1964-up Oldsmobiles with A/C have a heater control valve. The purpose of the valve is to shut off the flow of water to the heater core when you have the A/C set on MAX COLD. Unlike older models, it does not control temperature - there is a temperature blend door in the HVAC box under the dash that does that. If your cars are factory A/C cars, they came with valves when they were new. I can't comment on what's been done to them in the last half century. Chances are the valves started leaking and a previous owner simply deleted them.
Be aware that a 1967 uses a valve that is normally closed and opens when vacuum is applied. Later models (1973-up for A-body cars) use valve that are normally open and close when vacuum is applied. Most vendors list these incorrectly (big surprise there...). Use the wrong valve and you'll be complaining of no heat.

Joe that’s great info, valve closed with no vacuum (what I needed) next to decide (with no current plans to re-install the A/C) if to put the valve in there or stay with the straight connection and allow flow thru the heater all the time. Are there any disadvantages to allow flow all the time? Running car will be summer time windows down.
You may have noticed from other threads that those without the heater valve have a hose nipple with a flow restriction to minimize pressure to the heater core and thus in theory extend the life of said heater core.
^^^THIS. Supercars sells the correct nipple with the restrictor.
