I haven't seen all that many 403 blocks, but all the ones that I have seen have 403 cast in the side of the block with a big X under the number. I was following the thread on "Oldspower" of the guy that competely wiped out the thrust bearing in his 403 and couldn't help but notice that in one of the pictures, his block does not have the big X cast under the 403 on the side of the block..... Is there a difference in the blocks that I'm not aware of? What is the significance, if any, of the X anyway?

 

Mine has the X, no problem wiping bearings. Mine was from a 78 Delta 88.

 

No significance. Some forms had an X, some didn't.

 

I keep looking for a 403 block with an "$" stamped on it so Chris Witt can hook me up w/a cool mil.

 

At one point it was up to $2M. I could cast a fake SMW 403 block and still make money at that reward.

 

Joe, just use one of your millions and pay someone to cast it and double your money

I stopped at $1M, the date of Declaration of Myth was 02APR00 - the day after the April Fools Day festivities, Y2K.

And, if you carefully check the wording of the ad seeking proof of existence, when the $ amt got to be not really viable, I cleverly changed the wording to "for information leading to the PURCHASE OF..."

No Purchase, no payment.

Since I was certain at that point that none were going to show up- this was after a MULTI YEAR search, you know... the point of payment is moot.

Mr. Greg's #2 casting with huge 403 type bores and siamesed cylinders, that defies photographs, does not count. It may well make a 403 CID motor, but it's not "a 403 block" as in the "4A" ID block casting as set forth on pg. 12 of the Tech Manual that we all read. I was the 1st kid on the block to order that manual. Perhaps the common 4B blocks are the real thing!
