403 rods

I have a 403 that was given to me in a box. the rods were numbered but if I put them in as numbered some of the pistons appear to be on the rods wrong. I have heard that the orientation of the rod is more important so my question is.....................

How do the rods go as far as being on the crankshaft properly? The balance pad on the rod is tapered to one side and I was wondering if that was how you can tell because the 350 olds motor that I have the rods are all in the motor with the fat side of the balance pads back to back .

The bearing tangs go inside, or towards the cam vs outside, away from the cam.
