403 engine

403 engine

just acquired a 69 442 with 79 403 engine in it, the heads have a "e" on them believe from 455 ,are they worth keeping ?car was in a barn for 37 yrs motor turns by hand. hope to get started soon redoing fuel delivery system and wiring right now. was told motor rebuilt but not ran, heads were supposedly milled. when I enlarged pics found they are e heads not d ,sorry

I see you double checked and found they were E heads. Yes they are fine and worth keeping. Makesure you soak the cylinders with ATF and rotate the engine over by hand without the plugs incase it maybe stuck. You will also want to removed the distributor and spin the oil pump with a drill to get oil flowing to all the engine parts before you try and start. It will help prevent damage from being dry and sitting so long.

E heads were used on the non W-30 1970 455 engines and are one of the better big block Olds factory heads.

They may be other goodies in the motor if someone bothered swapping heads.
