403 with #2 heads 3711 intake don’t fit?

I bought a 403 from a guy who “just” rebuilt it it had number 2 heads on it. I took a valve cover off looks clean with roller rockers. It had a 7111 intake on it now I’m taking it to machine shop to tear down to check it over. So before I took engine to shop I had a edelbrock 3711 intake I was going to put on it but it didn’t fit engine was gap from intake to front of block and looked like i could almost see ports on heads. Would the 2711 intake fit better?
Thanks, Derek
engine is going in my 77 cutlass I’m trying to maintain stock ish appearance.

Edelbrock intakes are known to not be straight out of box and if the heads were milled, the fit will even be worse. I would get the machine to cut the head sides of the intake manifold. Measure the gap and cut it that much.

The 2711, 3711, and 7111 should all have the same mounting flange so they should fit the same.

I called Mondello before I got your responses, He told me that I needed a 2711. So I’m I’m a little confused now but I take your word on that all the flanges are the same. Thank you

For some reason my 7111 fit better than my 3711. My 3711 is probably warped. Don't listen to anything Mondello tells you unless it is Bernard Mondello who has nothing to do with Mondello Performance ran by Lynn Welfringer.

3711 and a 2711 are the same mountings except the that 2711 has no EGR ports. I may have a 2711 here - used at the machine shop and will know early next week when I go back.

Thank you for all the advice. I’m in the market for a used 2711 intake if you know anyone with one.

Just so we're all clear, the 2711 and 3711 intakes are dimensionally identical except for the EGR valve. If one fits the other one fits. If your heads have been milled a lot, neither intake will sit correctly, since the bolt holes that hold the intake to the heads are now closer to the block than intended by the factory. And yes, individual intakes from Edelbrock have been known to be warped or poorly machined.

The Edelbrock catalog says that the 7111 "Port flange has extra material above the runner for use with cast iron 455 heads and Edelbrock Performer RPM heads"

I wonder if someone has done some porting to the heads or otherwise milled them or the block ?? I dont think I would buy an intake until you conform exactly what has been done to your heads and blcok.

7111 is the RPM intake and is a much larger intake for a small block motor using big block heads and/or heavily ported small block heads.

You might just want to run the A4 Oldsmobile intake from the 80's off a 307. Nothing special about the #2 heads as they are small block heads. If you really want the 2711 - Send me a PM. I will consider selling mine - its clean and glass beaded. It's still at my local machine shop that I am putting off dealing with as I got jerked on a motor build.

Right now my 7111 is at the shop getting milled so it will fit correctly on my 403 with milled 455 C heads. I think the factory 403 intake might be slightly taller above the ports as well, it is definitely different than the late 350 iron intake. I should try to plop it on and see if it covers the big block ports. Do you have big block or small block heads? What is the number on them?

The title of this thread says "403 with #2 heads".

Keep the 7111 for that 403. The 2711 and 3711 are nearly identical to the A4 intakes.
On the heads, great, they already have 3/8 bolt holes for the rocker studs. Just make sure if you're gonna stick a different cam in there that there's enough clearance for the pushrods. Might have to take a tapered or step drill bit to the top and bottom to open them up as those heads were made for a 45* bank angle.
Also, your compression is marginally higher but consider using a thinner head gasket as the regular replacement ones are .023" thicker...unless the heads really have been cut that much....
