371 Carb Spacer
371 Carb Spacer
I have a 59 371 with a Rochester 2 GC carb. I think I am having a carb heating problem. After idling for an extended period the engine quits and won’t restart until it cools down. Temp gage hits 180 which isn’t that over heating. I get no indication of over heating, just thinking the carb bowl may be getting too hot ??. There appears to be a thin spacer (1/8 inch) in place now, wondering if a thicker one would help? Any idea where to find one? With a vacuum port ?
thanks for any help you can provide I really appreciate it

180 is normal operating temp. Could you have something electrical, like a coil or condenser that malfunctions when it gets hot ? You maybe could think about a carb "insulator" not a "spacer".
Others will chime in with their thoughts.

I run a insulator on my 55(4gc) and it helps with vapor lock which is a carb heating issue and it helps a lot. Have you tried insulating the gas line from the fuel pump to the carb? If that works there are things that may help that won't be so obvious like a spacer or insulate the gas line from the tank to the fuel pump where it will be hidden if you show your car....Tedd
Hi Tedd
Thanks for the input and I just ordered an insulating sleeve for the fuel line . Also replacing the coil, it’s quite old so maybe breaking down. An insulating spacer is also in the works. I am going to fix this frustrating problem.
thanks again greatly appreciate the input.

When it first dies look down into the carb while operating the throttle and see if you have 2 strong jets of fuel spraying. If you do it's not fuel related.
