350 Nascar Olds
Hello all! I'm new here but have been an Olds fan all my life! I have been away from the Olds world a bit but came back with the purchase of my 71 Cutlass in September. The car is currently setup for the 1320 only and has gone as fast as 10.3 at 135 with the previous owner using a 502 BBC/ turbo 400 setup. My intentions are to get her back on the Street some as well as some strip time too. I read Bill Travato's book and while I knew about the Diesel conversions, I never knew Oldsmobile had made NASCAR based motors. Well I figured why not search for the best block and go from there! Bingo.....I saw a post from Greg Godon and will be aquiring his last A.J Foyt NASCAR block! Talk about psyched! He says keep the motor around 400 CI and Turbo/Procharge it. I was thinking Procharger as well but not sure on CI size. Do I keep it near 400 or go bigger? Love to hear feedback!

Looks like you've got a fun project!
Most of the highend racers and builders hang out at realoldspower.com. Wear you asbestos underwear. You'll likely get the best advice there.
Take care of that block. There aren't many.

Nah I'll pass on the batten heads'. From what I've read they were poor casting quality even though they flowed the best.im going to save the money and get bare ebrocks and have BTR do the build. The motor will be procharged and want 800-1200hp depending on boost!

The diesel D/DX blocks had solid 3/4 inch thick main webs but the Nascar block is even thicker! The oil pan area is thicker and all around this thing is massive! This is the block to have for massive power!

You've already got it so it's too late now but a DX diesel block is way more than enough for what you have planned. In some areas it is actually preferred over the NASCAR block particularly the non-siamesed ones which is the vast majority of them.

My block is an early block according to Mr Godon. I do believe it is non siamesed. What is actually preferred with the diesel block over the NASCAR block? I'm posting pics of it in an album now so you can look at it if you'd like.
